Just to the west of Chicago is River Forest and home to one of their Native Food locations. I have been to several around the country including Chicago, Portland, and California. I have loved nearly everything I have eaten at a Native Foods, so I was happy to introduce Laura to the chain as part of our Vegan Road Trip.
Since I have had so many of their dishes, I decided to try something I haven’t had yet. While I enjoyed the Bangkok Curry Bowl, I was wishing for the Scorpion Burger instead. The sauce was really nice, but there wasn’t enough of it. The thick chunks of tofu on top were well marinated and cooked. I also liked the large chunks of perfectly cooked carrots. The kale and rice were nice too.
Laura ordered the Yo Amigo Taco salad and the blueberry hibiscus tea. Check out her blog to see what she thought of her first Native Foods meal.
After eating, we were both really stuffed, but the siren song of the dessert case was calling our names. We settled on the peanut butter parfait. The chocolate chips and coconut were a nice touch. We took turns with the spoon, and it was quickly gone. Yum!
If you get the chance to check out a Native Foods, do it! They are one of my favorite 100% vegan restaurants. I like how they make everything from scratch including the drinks. They have a strong environment angle as well with lots of recycled and compostable stuff. Their blog also is filled with lots of great recipes. I’ll stop gushing now, just check them out.
PS: Native Foods, please come to Minnesota soon!
