Last week, I was invited to Sovereign Estate Winery to sample their wine and learn more about their new exclusive catering relationship with D’Amico Catering. It was a short drive to Waconia, MN from Minneapolis through beautiful rolling hills and farms. The event took place on a Tuesday which created the perfect excuse to take the afternoon off to enjoy some delicious wine. I invited Laura to come with.
The winery is situated on a beautiful property right on Lake Waconia about 45 minutes west of Minneapolis.
They had eight different stations setup with wine and food pairings. They arranged the stations, so guests could walk the grounds and see the different areas and table configurations. Of course while sampling the different food and wine pairings.
We enjoyed sampling all eight of the different wines. My favorite was a La Crescent from 2013. It won the Governor’s Cup as best wine in Minnesota. A slightly sweet white wine; I loved the hint of pineapple.
We found a comfortable bench under a large tree and enjoyed some live music.
After sampling the wine, we took a leisurely stroll through the vineyard. It was great to see all the grape vines growing. Some of them with grapes just starting to form.
I liked the various table arrangements they had setup to demonstrate the varied options for hosting events. We both mentioned how we wished someone we knew would get married there, so we could come back for another event.
The have a very configurable, comfortable space from large corporate events to weddings or small more person options. They even had their own baseball diamond.
The garden was my favorite location of the tour. The flowers were all blooming and they were incredibly fragrant. We wished the live music could have been by the garden. Then we would never have left. I enjoyed the St. Therese Rose 2013 wine; it was a delicious dessert wine. They had it paired with chocolates.
This table looked very inviting sitting in the middle of the garden surrounded by an explosion of flowers. Did I mention how great it smelled?
Laura spotted this little frog on one of the leaves in the garden. Very cool. He seemed to be enjoying the beautiful day as well.
We could see these chairs being really comfortable later in the evening with a nice fire going and a glass of wine.
I liked this mural of what looks like Italy under one of the awnings. We sat and admired it for a while.
The wine in their store was reasonably priced. It was tempting to buy some, but we decided not to. We will just have to come back instead.
We had a nice day enjoying the lovely setting at Sovereign Estate and their tasty wine. They clearly spent a lot of time and attention setting up their location for hosting events large or small. I look forward to visiting them again soon. Cheers!
