Tree House is an all vegetarian restaurant on Grand Blvd in Saint Louis. They are just down the street from Lulu’s and several other good spots. I found this one on happycow and was excited to try their brunch menu.
I wanted some Chai, but they didn’t seem to have any. They did have dozens of coffee flavors and some adult beverages. My server was new, and he did a fantastic job.
I ordered the desayuno latino with vegan cheese. It is a black bean and vegetable stuffed masa cake with house made escabeche, malagueta, and chimichurri. I don’t know what half those things are, but it was very delicious. To make it vegan they swapped the eggs for tofu and topped them with some roja salsa. I liked the flavors of this dish a lot. The potatoes were a touch oily, but still very delicious. The masa cake was excellent.
I wasn’t planning on ordering a donut, but our server talked them up a ton. When he mentioned they had a key lime donut, I was sold. It was awesome. So fresh and tasty. The outside was lightly crispy with a sugar glaze on top. A little lime zest for some color. Inside was the key lime filling and it was one of the best I have ever had. It was like they took the pie and stuck it inside. So, so good.
I took a cinnamon roll to go. I was meeting a friend later, and I thought it would be a great treat. We both enjoyed them. So soft and sugary. Make sure to get a glass of almond milk to eat it with or chai.
I enjoyed my visit to Tree House and would definitely get the baked goods again.
