Last Week in Tastiness

x500-2

There was a lot of amazing food this past week which made writing this post the hardest so far in this series. I’ll start the week off in reverse for a change of pace. With Valentine’s day this past week, I made heart shaped bread bowls, croutons, and biscuits. They were well received with the soup I made. I hope to post the soup recipe soon.

Laura really liked the heart shaped bread above, and brought me a heart shaped cookie! It was a shortbread covered in chocolate. I enjoyed eating it.

I stopped by whole foods for dinner this week to get some of their raw kale salad. I haven’t had it in what seems like ages. It’s my favorite thing there. It is really simple to make; I’m not sure why I haven’t made it at home. Kale, olive oil, lemon juice, pine nuts, and cranberries. They also put in cherry tomatoes, but I pick those out when packing my bowl since they price by weight. I can get a lot more salad for less without them.

I haven’t made pancakes in a while, and I had a serious pancake craving. I was completely satisfied after making these blueberry lemon pancakes drenched in maple syrup from northern Minnesota. Yum.

I had an extra day off this week, so after nearly four years I managed to make it to Gorkha Palace’s lunch buffet. It was as good as I hoped. I had several plates full of hariyo saag, roti, and carrot pakora. The pakora isn’t on the normal menu and I had not seen the hariyo saag made from baby bok choi before. They normally make it with mustard greens. It was still delicious.

Oh this guac. It was the best guac I have ever had; it was so good, I ate it with a fork. I had it a restaurant called La Senda which is in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. I’ll write more about La Senda later. The guac there, seriously, so good. A perfect blend of avocado, lime, onions, tomato, and cilantro. The sunflower micro greens on top pushed it over the edge. They are my fave!

This is an arepa from Kaxapa Factory in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. An arepa is a Venezuelan flatbread made from ground corn. It is usually fried and like a pita, filled with tastiness. This one had beans, friend plantain, tofu, and avocado. I really wanted to add some cilantro chutney to it; otherwise it was perfect.

  3. I've never heard of arepa before, it looks pretty good. But then again, all of the dishes look pretty good. And you just reminded me that there is no Indian restaurant around here...
